During the course of a ten day voyage between London and New York there might be as many as three entertainments and, if it was summer, a sports day or a series of tournaments. These events were organized, usually by a committee of passengers working with the ship's purser, and often at short notice. Programmes for these events were printed on board by the ship's printer for distribution to passengers, and many were kept by them as souvenirs of their voyage. The programs were usually printed on regular ship's letterhead or menu card stock.
